Today I began a new goal: to be able to perform 100 pushups. Do I think I can do it? Not really. But I am willing to trust the plan at hundredpushups.com and give it a go!
I took the initial test a few minutes ago and I creaked out a shaky 24 pushups. 100 seems an impossibly long way away. Hopefully no one at the office was disturbed by my grunting and labored breathing.
I am doing this for 2 main reasons: to get in better shape, and to reduce pain in my neck. Sitting at a desk all day has certainly not helped my fitness level. For the sake of my own accountability I will make my progress public. And maybe it will help improve my golf swing!
Anyone want to join the fun?

Do you have to do 100 at a time, or over an extended period of time (like, say, a week)?
Just kidding. You have my vote of confidence.
Don
The goal is 100 in one shot. You should see if you can put those “potato muscles” to work, Don!
12/17/7/3/4=43 pushups today. Must have started on wrong week. Any suggestions on what week/group to do Wednesday? Ouch!
You can get to 100 push-ups. I’ve decided to give it a shot too. the most I can remember doing at once is 72, during a test in the Navy. I’ma bout 40 lbs heavier now. My first goal is to get back to there. I’ll post my numbers shortly.
Thanks for the encouragement Chris! I am already amazed in just doing it for less than 2 weeks how much progress I am making. And I am even more amazed at how much less neck pain I am experience throughout the day. Yesterday I did 12/13/10/10/18=63.
Hmm, I started this at one point, but didn’t really follow through very well. Maybe I’ll give it another shot.
On another note, “no one at the office”? You did this at work? Like, at your desk? Yeah, I don’t think I’d do that…
Yeah, I just close the door for 10 minutes during a break and try not to grunt or wheeze too loudly.
I’m going to go see where I’m at right now… oh boy not looking forward to this!
Ok Mark I’m in good company… 24 for me too!
Let’s see how long I can keep this up!
You can do it Ben! I think…
I’m up to being able to do 31 after completing the week 2 columns. 100 is still a long way off.
See my twitter feed at http://twitter.com/zoobey for updates on my progress.
How the mighty have fallen! My initial test is a whopping 19. I’m a bit embarrassed, but at least honest. I remember doing 30 just last summer.
For more inspiration, I talked to a friend of mine who told me that he does three sets of 70 push-ups three times a week. He doesn’t know how many at once, but says at least 80. He also has cerebral palsy, so most of his effort comes from his right arm. The left half of his body doesn’t build and maintain muscle mass like most people. If he can do it, we can.
Dang, that’s inspiring! Don’t feel bad about the 19: I can’t go all the way down because of my belly in the way. Maybe the belly will get a little smaller through this though.
proving that I am supposed to play by their posted rules, I did the first workout today after doing the intial test this morning. 10/12/8/4 -inc. Not even from my knees. I’m going to regret this tomorrow.
You may want to chew your arms off tomorrow… it will pass. Maybe.
after last weeks initial workout & failure then Saturday’s sunburn, I resumed the program today. 10/12/7/7/10 = 46. week 1, day 1, third column.
Way to get back on it Chris. I tried day 3, third column, but couldn’t quite do it: http://twitter.com/zoobey/status/2290487133
I’m starting back up with this — had to stop because I started injuring my shoulder. Anybody else working on it?
